Learner Policy
TATEC is committed to delivering high-quality BTEC education in a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment. By enrolling in our BTEC Business or ECEC programs, learners agree to uphold institutional values and comply with this policy. This document summarizes the key rights, responsibilities, and regulations governing student conduct, academic standards, safety, and welfare.
1. Certification and Assessment:
Eligibility for Certification:
- Completion of all required units and assessments.
- Internal verification of assessment decisions.
- Registration with Pearson and submission via Edexcel Online.
- No outstanding fees or academic penalties.
- Certificates are typically acquired within 3–4 weeks from the date of graduation.
Types of Certificates:
- Full Qualification Certificate for completed programs.
- Unit Certificate upon request.
- Transcript of Achievement listing grades and units.
Assessment Guidelines:
Submissions must follow assignment briefs and deadlines.
Only one resubmission is allowed unless otherwise justified.
Written feedback is provided within 15 working days of submission.
Feedback highlights strengths, areas for improvement, and alignment with learning outcomes.
Appeals Process:
Stage 1: Informal discussion with assessor.
Stage 2: Formal written appeal to Internal Verifier.
Stage 3: Review by the Assessment Board (within 15 working days).
2. Attendance and Punctuality:
Minimum attendance requirement: 85% per unit.
Absences must be supported by medical or official documentation.
Lateness: Three late arrivals = one unexcused absence.
3. Academic Integrity:
Prohibited conduct:
- Plagiarism: Using others’ work without acknowledgment.
- Collusion: Unauthorized collaboration.
- Cheating: Using unauthorized assistance.
Penalties:
First offense: Warning and resubmission.
Repeated/severe offenses: Grade penalties, suspension, or expulsion.
4. Code of Conduct:
All learners must:
- Treat peers and staff respectfully.
- Dress appropriately and behave professionally.
- Avoid harassment, bullying, and disruptive behavior (including online).
- Disciplinary actions may include verbal warnings, written warnings, suspension, or expulsion.
5. Safeguarding and Well-being:
Safeguarding Officer (DSO) handles all concerns confidentially, including:
- Abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, domestic).
- Mental health concerns.
- Substance misuse or criminal exploitation.
- Child protection is especially emphasized for ECEC students during placements.
Support includes:
- Counseling or referrals.
- Academic adjustments if needed.
- Partnership with local agencies for intervention.
6. Anti-Bullying, Abuse, and Exploitation:
TATEC enforces zero-tolerance policies against:
- Bullying: Physical, verbal, social, or cyber-based.
- Substance abuse: Possession or use of alcohol, illegal drugs, or misuse of prescriptions.
- Criminal exploitation: Coercion into illegal activity or extremist recruitment.
- Sexual exploitation: Grooming, harassment, or manipulation into sexual acts.
- Domestic abuse: Any controlling or violent behavior from family/intimate partners.
Reporting and Response:
Reports can be made in person, via email, or through a confidential form.
Urgent cases: Contact the DSO or emergency services.
Investigations follow fair, timely procedures (within 5–10 working days).
7. Equality, Inclusion, and Additional Needs:
TATEC supports all learners, including those with:
Disabilities
Learning difficulties
Temporary medical conditions
Reasonable adjustments may include:
Extra time on assessments
Use of assistive technology
Individual support plans
8. Health, Safety, and Digital Conduct:
Fire safety and emergency procedures are taught during orientation.
Students must report hazards and follow all health protocols.
Digital Learning:
Use platforms responsibly (Moodle, MS Teams, etc.).
Follow netiquette during online classes (mute microphones, dress appropriately).
9. Use of Facilities:
Students are expected to:
Respect lab/classroom resources.
Avoid tampering with equipment or systems.
Report damage; misuse may result in penalties.
10. Grievances and Complaints:
Learners may file complaints about:
Academic matters
Staff conduct
Facilities or services
Procedure:
Submit written complaint to Centre Manager.
Acknowledgment within 5 working days.
Resolution within 15 working days.
11. Withdrawals and Refunds:
Withdrawal:
Submit written request to Registrar.
Receive withdrawal letter and transcript if eligible.
Refunds:
Withdrawal before course start:
- 100% refund minus AED 100 administrative fee.
- Written notice must be submitted at least 5 working days before the course start date.
Withdrawal during the first month of the course:
- 50% refund of the total course fee.
- Applies only to programs longer than two weeks.
Withdrawal after the first month:
- No refund will be issued.
- Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis (e.g., medical reasons), with supporting documentation.
Course cancelled by TATEC:
- 100% refund will be issued.
- Refund processed within 10 working days of cancellation notice.
Refund Request Process
Requests must be submitted in writing and signed by the learner or guardian (if applicable).
Supporting documents (e.g., medical reports) must be included if claiming exceptional circumstances.
Approved refunds will be issued via the original payment method, unless otherwise agreed.
12. Data Protection:
Personal information is stored securely and used only for academic or safety-related purposes.
Learners can access their records upon request.
13. Learner Declaration:
All students must sign a declaration confirming:
They have read and understood this policy.
They agree to abide by TATEC and Pearson standards.
They will uphold the values of respect, responsibility, and academic integrity.
